Went straight out Thursday. The dolphin must have been full from feeding all night on the full moon because it was slowwwww. The hook pulled on a BIG dolphin around 10am in 210’. That left us with the haunting image of a huge dolphin that we missed and only a slinger in the box. Around 3pm we decided to stick with trolling and to not go bottom bumping… good decision. Right then John took a 90 degree turn to the right as he said he saw something. We went over the spot and Shane landed a grown 1 year old 38lb Bull that he fought on his favorite reel. Caught and missed a few more as the afternoon bite turned on and then turned toward home. At 130’ we pulled the planner rod line, 5 top lines, and 2 dredges in. We only had 2 lines left in the water and the outriggers down when John starts plaining out doing about 10-12kts. He had no idea we didn’t have everything in yet and wanted to go a little faster while we tucked everything away. Right then the WTFB gets nailed and is screaming line. We’re hooked up with the twin brother from earlier, another 38lb bull that put on a great show and fought like hell. After a great fight, and some drama that involved me dunking my rod and head under so the line could go under the props, we head home with a crazy last min. daymaker going 12kts!!
I had to double check the scale at home. I was sure my scale was off. Funny how you always think they weigh more than they do. The scale was right on. 38lbs it is.
