Anyone heading out next week for the big tides (Mon-Wed)? I would sure like to tag along with someone with more experience. Thinking of puting in at folly creek and looking for tails. Anybody else gonna try?
Fished/ paddled hard today. Put in at Folly boatlanding, armed w/ dozen minners, elect chicken and gold spoons. I paddled the grass flats behind folly and oak island 3-4hrs. I heard a few crash, but never had a chance to cast on them. Small trout and maybe one good hit that got off. , very slow.
try again tomorrow.
CM, I often fish small creeks at low tide with my yak. I have found that getting back into creeks that boats can’t get into will put you into some great redfishing. If you are looking for tailers you need to be more toward the ocean and not around Oak Island or the Anchor Line. If the bottom is soft mud you will not find many tailers. You will encounter reds in the grass with soft bottoms but they don’t tail, meaning you won’t see them until you spook them. There are lots of areas in Stono Inlet that hold tailing reds. Most folks aren’t even aware of reds in shallow water because they don’t practice stealth. I have seen fishermen in areas that had fish all around them but because they were banging in the boat and throwing the anchor over they never saw a fish. Look for areas that have little boat traffic and are off the beaten path. Good luck!
