I have a 2003 Polar Flats 17’ CC w/70 HP Yamaha 2-stroke. The boat is rated for up to a 115. As you can guess, it is a little underpowered. If you can believe my fishfinder, it tops out at about 34 mph. I would really like to possibly move up to a 90 hp but am not sure if it is worth the money and trouble. My motor is a 2003 in excellent condition and has been well maintained. I would estimate that is has no more than 150 hours on it. I guess what I am asking is what is the best method to determine what this would cost, sell my motor and put that money towards a new one or trade? Is this even worth considering? Thanks
id stay with the 70 for draft reasons. if you never pole it, id maybe move up…but ive never caught a fish with the motor. for me, the ability to get skinny overrides my need for speed.
I just upgraded from a 70 to a 90 on my 17. If you are wanting to stay two stroke the 90 won’t make that much difference with weight. If you go 4 stroke, look out because the four stroke yammi is 380lbs. I can’t get near as skinny, but my fuel economy makes up for that. The main reason I traded was fuel economy and it’s going to pay for itself sooner than later.
Being the motor is an 03 and two stroke you probably won’t get too much for it anyway. You might as well go ahead and trade it.
