Bow mounted spear gun? That would be fun.

So who fell for this story and reported me? You should get a life and not be so gullible. I found that fish dead and floating off the beach. Contacted the proper people about what to do with it and had permission to bring it to the research facility. It’s comical to me that someone would take the time to report me for this, but it is exactly what I expected. Thanks for not letting me down.

And if anyone cares, the dolphin had pneumonia but also had a recent encounter with a Shark that may have been the final blow that killed it.

haha, I can’t believe someone reported you over this. I have been waiting all day to hear what caused it to die though. I guessed you were probably towing it back for DNR to take a look.
Exactly Seashaker. I found the mammal a mile from Fort johnson and knew there were people that could use it for their studies. Anywhere else, or if it had been a few days old and that thing would have been left for the crabs.

That’s hilarious!
It doesn’t surprise me one bit, though.

Me either. Amazing how people jump to conclusions (or origins). I would never assume anyone could be dumb enough to kill and land a dolphin, haul it home across the back of the boat and post pictures of it on the Internet. There had to be a legal explanation.

It was actually in the paper?

I called the DNR once when a massive dead sea turtle washed onshore at Folly. I don’t know what sort of turtle it was but it was an easy 4’ across the shoulders. I guess I’m glad I didn’t post pics of it here lol.

Fritz,
Haters are going to hate. People are going to take any angle possible to get into another person’s business. It is amazing how some people make assumptions. You did right, but you will be scrutinized anyway–that’s not your fault. Keep pressing, Fritz.

Here is a different take: You probably knew you were ruffling some feathers and that there would be several people that were alarmed over this. Yet you didn’t explain why there was a dead dolphin on your boat until a day later. I kinda figured you’d play it out a bit then come back and explain (which you did), but you left yourself open to speculation and getting reported in the interim. I know you aren’t dumb enough to basically convict yourself with photos if you had really done something illegal, but others might not know that. Anyway, good job on taking in for research.

Fritz there is a story below for ya…
Like most of you, I can’t believe someone reported this. If anyone follows this site they should know you well enough to know there was a reason. I am sure you were curious how far someone would take this. Now you know… To those of you who do not know Fritz, he is probably the most generous guide I know. I know you may not remember this Fritz but in 2002 I was fishing with a friend of mine Shane L. in Bulls Bay for Tarpon. We jumped a few and landed one but we didn’t have a camera. You came over with your clients and snapped pictures for us and then emailed them to me. THANKS. Fast forward to 2 years ago… We fish IOP every fall for a week. We passed you under the James Island bridge (the turning draw bridge I don’t think it is called the connector?). I was throwing my net for mullet to hopefully catch some Harbor reds. You stopped as you passed, threw me a large bag of 12 inch or so fresh mullet and said have fun. My buddy and I caught 11 large reds in 2 hours on the mullet you gave us. Again THANKS!!! In the last 2 years since then I have been doing the same thing when I see someone throwing the net and I have plenty or I am done for the day. Pay it forward.

We found a dead dolphin in front of the Wando terminal a few years ago, smelled like he had been dead long enough. We figured or guessed it misjudged surfing a ship bow wake.
We considered calling DNR, but really didn’t want to spend a lot of time wretching and gagging waiting for DNR to arrive.

My dog found one long dead and well ripened on the beach at Little Tybee a while back. He rolled all in it and came back smeared with rotten dolphin goo [:0] My wife puked on the spot and I almost did. It took months to get the smell off the dog.
