I caught one 34 inches, and thick on Sunday. I estimate 15-17 lbs. By far the biggest I have ever caught, or even seen, tailing up in the grass. It took about 15 minutes to land him. He looked like he belonged in TNT hole. I saw him cruising w/ his back out of the water and thought it was an otter or something at first b/c of the size. Caught a smaller one about 21 inches about 30 minutes later
The only minus is I didn’t get a photo. I was wading by myself. I tried to flag my buddy down while I was fighting him but no luck. Oh well,I guess I’ll have to do it again!
He was the only fish I saw on the flat. I’m wondering if this a fluke or what.
What’s the biggest tailer you’ve caught, otf, of course?
ManofLiesure took one last year that went 13# and 31". I was livved as I had pointed out the fish and thus was entitled to it. Never seen bigger on the flats. Congrats!
out in the n edisto a couple years ago, I saw one that would have gone 36-38 in. As I was in mid backcast, my poler (drunk) drops the pole on the deck of the boat and away goes the biggest wild SC tailer I have seen. Granted I have caught tailers in ponds and indian river/mosquito lagoon, bigger than that.
Caught one a few weeks ago that went 35. He wasn’t in the grass, but was cruising up the ICW in about 5 inches of water at low tide. His whole back was out of the water.
Sounds like I was fortunate to even get a shot at one so large. Some of you that replied I know are good fisherman and get out quite a bit. I try not to get hung up on the pictures, but I sure wish I had one of this fish.
I’ve heard Bulls is a good place to look for a big daddy otf. Any truth to that? I never fished tailers up that way, just curious
Don’t have the picture but saw it of one caught by a friend two nights ago behind kiawah tailing. Wait for it… 37 in, 16#
Clearly the poor creature was lost.

fished bull island sunday and saw the most small fish I have ever seen tailing. Some weren't even coming out of the water they were so small.
my biggest was probably round ten lbs but i seen some big ol broom tails wavin in three foot of water on the south ed, the larger fish prefer finfish and big bluecrab instead of fiddlers so i imagine thats why they shy out of the grass when they get older, but congratulations on that fish man
