Saw a wren I thought coming out from under boat cover, she was actually coming out of top of motor cowling. This is 2015 150 four stroke and birds made nest on top on the inside of cowl, they were coming thru the vents on both sides near the top of cowling, half a five gallon bucket of nest material.I will be buying a motor cover.
Those wrens will make a nest almost anywhere. Some of my aircraft owner friends have had engine fires due to bird nests, granted they didn’t do a proper pre flight inspection. Love the bird activity in the spring!

…and watch for mud wasps nesting in the water pisser tube:wink:
You’ll see slimey white liquid dripping out with very small black turds chunks.

A guy on THT just lost a larger Yamaha because a bird got stuck in the timing belt. Threw the timing and popped the powerhead.
I have had birds nest in my 150 on two occasions. Once with a cover over the engine, don’t know how the little buggers got in there. Before I crank the engine in the early spring I check the oil level AND for the birds.

Opened up one of my hatches to find this gem on top of my battery box last spring… complete with 3 baby cowbirds! They weren’t quite old enough to fly yet, and they fled into the front recesses of the boat. Could not get the bastards out. Eventually I just left the hatch open, and the next morning they had found their way out onto the deck and flew as far as the neighbor’s roof before crashing. Took hours to clean all the straw and sh*t out of the bilge. They got in through a little hand hole that allows access to the battery switch, now covered!

I had dirt daubers make a next in the throat of the carburetor of my 25 merc. Let just say it did not run so well. Chris V had to fix that one for me. They were nice enough to save the nest for me.
