Today is my Bride’s 50th birthday. Instead of going out to eat, I am going to attempt to treat her to the same quality at home. The menu includes: A lobster salad cocktail, lump crab cakes, sauteed brussel sprouts, roasted fingerling potatoes, home grown tomatoes drizzled with olive oil, fresh basil and goat cheese. For dessert, a homemade New York style cheesecake. It will be my first attempt at the cheesecake so wish me luck. I will post some photos later, unless it is a bomb!
Awe! That’s really sweet! Menu sounds fabulous too. Good luck on the cheesecake. I can tell ya I’ve got the cooking thing down, but the baking thing I lack - maybe 'cause my only kid is the one I’m married to! I tried Waters Edge recipe for egg custard pie yesterday(3 eggs, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 cups milk and a dash each of salt and nutmeg - beat and pour into unbaked pie shell and bake for 45 minutes at 400 degrees), and I surprised myself! It was super easy and a great accompaniment to homemade lump crab cakes and fried green tomatoes. MUCH easier than cheesecake too but if your bride loves cheesecake you should make that! You’ll do good! Geez, if you can make that other stuff the cheesecake should be a Piece of Cake!
The cheesecake cracked on the top when it was cooling. I understand that can come from from over mixing or cooking a little too long, but it didn’t effect the flavor any!
Since my birthday is next month, you can make me one! Try setting a little pyrex bowl filled with water on a baking sheet where you have the springform pan sitting next time. Works with any custard (creme brulee, custard pie, etc.) to keep the tops from cracking. Should work with cheesecake. Geez, if my husband came home from the bakery with a cheese cake I’d be happy! You done good!
