Bizarre report on Big Rock

I just heard on the radio from a fishing report from Wilmington, N. C. that the big marlin was taken from a longliner’s hook and the cpt. ADMITTED it was true.

Stand by for the most bizarre story ever from a marlin tournament…

Link?

Sounds like something out of the rumor mill. If that were the case they would have said that and not blamed the mate.

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

Maybe the longliner story came out after the checking of license disqualification, getting better and better.

No link UT, heard the story on sports talk radio from a Wilmington cpt.

“The big one’s still swimming, let’s go.”

I would check your sources. The true story is what is being reported on the official tournament website: www.thebigrock.com. No license = no fish. I wish it was more tantalizing, but it’s really just sad.

Come on! Common sense would dictate that nobody would be ballsy enough to do something like that knowing that every single person on the boat is subject to a polygraph… Put your tin foil hat back on and cut your radio off!!!

For 1 million dollars people will try anything. Guess they figured they could beat the machine.

MANY MANY people have beat the machine, including one of my former bosses many times, maybe get your head out skinnee again…

“The big one’s still swimming, let’s go.”

For a promised million dollar paycheck and no jail time to know of, I bet 90% of people would try it…

Latest video and report…This guy wants to blame others but if you couldn’t find anything that said you didn’t have one, THERE’S A PROBLEM!!! Meaning, you obviously looked to see if you had one, couldn’t find anything that said YOU DID have one, and just decided to try your luck…It’s nobody’s fault but his own. The owner and captain were obviously trustworthy and it bit them in the ass…If he told them he thought he had one, that should’ve threw up a red flag.

So you are saying only 10% of people are honest.

Scroll to the last 5 or so posts on this thread…This guy isn’t making up this longline story, people are buzzing about it.

I’m not saying 10% are honest, well maybe, we all lie at some point…I would say less than 1% of people never lie…BUT for one million dollars, let me help, ONE MILLION DOLLARS People will do JUST ABOUT anything…If the opportunity arises and they can make a plan that they think will work, they may…If it’s caught on a long line and just dies or is almost dead, why wouldn’t they think they could get away from it…Apparently the kid was pissed, said he didn’t have a license to the wrong people to get back at the owners and then that’s why the questions were popped.

What a bad ass. A 22 year old “expert” blue marlin fisherman. I got underwear older than that.

I say this kid hangs himself in the next year.

Or you can get your head out of your ass and give us the odds of ALL PERSONS ON THE BOAT passing the test! You are talking probably 6-8 people.

Let’s be honest, there isn’t a consipiracy theory out there that you won’t buy! If someone says it, it must be true!!!

After watching the video that Pflueger posted, you kind of get a feel for who this kid is…

  1. He said that he thought that he had a license because “he didn’t find anything that said he didn’t have one”!!! What? Is there some kind of “you don’t have a license” card that I should keep in my wallet if I don’t have a license?
  2. He should have accepted sole responsibility. Instead, he said that he, the captain, and the owner are at fault!!! Can you imagine being the owner after some kid lost you 1M dollars after he told you he had a license and then said it was your fault for not checking him?!?!?
  3. He says that he was treated very poorly by them amidst all of what was going on… And then he goes on to say that he doesn’t know if he wants to come back and fish with the Citation next year!!! Uhhh… I’m guessing that he wouldn’t be the one making that decision!!!

There are definitely some dull tools in the shed, but come on…

My favorite quote…

“I mean I still did catch an 883 pound blue marlin.”

One observer on each vessel stops all this!!

I think the owner of the vessel showed a great deal of class by not taking the advise of attornies and tying the thing up in court with a lawsuit. The rules do not specify when the license has to be purchased just that everyone had to have a license. The owner chose not to litigate the thing because it would have cost the Big Rock tons of money in legal fees and since the tournament is a charity event that’s money that would be going in the hands of lawyers that should have gone into the hands of some charity. Hat’s off to him for doing the right thing!

It does show a lot of class, and a lack of greed, for the owner of the vessel to not take this to court. One thing that hasn’t been said is this . . . 1 million dollar is a lot of money, we all know that, but, when you own a boat that size, and you enter tournaments with $15,000 entry fees, you are not broke (if you are living paycheck to paycheck then maybe Big Rock isn’t for you). Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches and realize it wasn’t meant to be. Rules are rules, and my hat is off to the owner if indeed he takes it in stride, as I am not sure if I could have done the same

If I owned the boat I would take the kid fishing with me one more time. One way
