So, on the drive to the dock a black cat ran across the road right in front of my car…figured something interesting might happen and it sure did.
Got my wife to finally make her first trip offshore and she brought along two friends. Goal of the day was to get her first billfish. Headed out late, leaving the dock around 6am. Thanks to the DAWG DUE for clearning a nice path for us on the way out. Followed them most of the way then headed further south.
Dropped lines in 180’ and was immediately covered up in cudas, which in retrospect was OK because the ladies had fun pulling them in. Pushed out deeper to get away from them and picked up a decent bull dolphin and wahoo within the first hour.
Things got slow and an hour or so later the sail showed up. Got a hook in him and the fish started dancing. Yelled at the wife to get the belt on which she did. Handed her the rod and turned to start clearing lines and then the rod flew from her hands and went straight over the motors and into the water. The fish kept jumping and the rod was sking across the surface for a few seconds before it sank. I sure hope that fish survied.
Been fishing for a long time and i’ve never seen or heard of that that happen before. “I’m sorry babe” was the response I got. Caught a pair of bonita and a small shark after that but that was it.
Anyway, they had a great time and want to go it again, which means I get to go offshore more often now at least. Picked up a new fishing parnter but it cost me around $300 in the process.
Well i dont think its the black cats fault. We had one run in front of the the truck so close his tail is an inch shorter before we even got five miles from spartanburg on the way down sunday. I couldnt of asked for better luck. Nothing went wrong. Well except no pogies. Didnt need them anyways. Was that you i talked to on 68 near the banks?
Well, please tell your Mia that I will stock the boat next time with duct tape, which will be liberally applied before placing anything in her hands…oh wait, I can’t talk, still owe you a gaff…HAHAHA…Glad ya’ll had fun, and glad you once again almost caught a sail…Your Wonderful Buddy…T
p.s.–300$ for a new fishing buddy when its your wife is well worth it…now she can’t give you anymore @#@# when you wanna go fishing!! HAHAHA…
