Hit one of my favorite high tide flats today. Landed one 22 inch red and a Black Drum. The Black Drum hit a crab pattern in about 18 inches of water. Sorry for th photo quality, no co-pilot on board to help with the picture taking.
Looks like a Black Drum… nice fish
My original post mis-identidied this fish as a sheepshead, but thanks to clouser 1 and google I have corrected that mistake. I didn’t realize black drum had stripes. Oh well. Its my first black drum on the fly. Lol!
Did he have a little barb thing under his chin? Did you see him tailing? Don’t worry, more thans few of us have made that mistake

I don’t recall a barb under his chin. He was just cruising around on the flat. But after looking at his fin orientation in another photo, I looked pretty obvious that it was a black drum after all.
That, at sheepshead have some wicked teeth. No mistaking them if you ever get a look at the teeth lol
Congrats, I look forward to my first black drum OTF, How was the fight ??
Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

But, hey… you caught a nice fish on a fly rod. YOU are the guy teaching US how to fish. Good catch.
