Black Gill

It is official, the word is out from Charleston papers to california papers…Black gill is devestating the carolina/georgia shrimping industry…Where has DNR been on this issue?
From what I have read it could be caused from many things including the pond raised shrimp…It causes shrimp to not grow normally, shed prematurely, and affects reproduction…One interesting “theory” is that throwing out infected shrimpheads multiplys the bacteria as the little critters(bacteria) become free swimming and find new hosts.
Seems to be more questions than answers on this infection, however,it does explain a lot of questions on here about where are the shrimp…
You would think that DNR and biologists would have sounded the alarm earlier??

A deep hole shrimper told my friend this was happening earlier this summer. Some poo-poo’d the idea.
