Hey folks My 18’ got vandalized by some low lifes. They wrote all kind of crap on the side of my boat with a black majic marker. Hull cleaner will not get it off. Any ideas would be appreciated…
Alcohol??? Methanol??? Acetone (nail polish remover)?
Try it on a small spot first. I don’t know what any of these would do to the gel coat, but they should remove the marker.
Barkeepers Friend found in cleaning section of stores. Try on wet hull with wet sponge. You can also try muratic acid.

sometimes you can use the same black marker over it and it will losen it up to get it off we did this on fiberglass pools

Try Hairspray. It works on leather seats / should work on fiberglass.
WD-40 is worth a shot.

I was putting in Laminate floor. had one piece left marked it on the wrong end, with a Sharpie.
It came of clean with (grain Alcohol) aka everclear.
don’t use acetone it will break down the gelcoat.

i recently bought a product called Hull Cleaner from wal-mart. it was around $9 and came in a blue plastic bottle. it took the waterline stains and other stuff off of my boat. you could literally watch the stains dissappear. give it a shot. it should work. good luck.
wiping acetone on cured gelcote will not damage anything
but it will remove all wax
i would try the denatured alcohol, then acetone

chris v; you are right about the acetone (hull cleaner). all of the waterline stains were gone but i do need to rewax the sides.
go and buy a dry erase marker and write over the black magic marker ink then simply wipe it off…IT WORKS!!!

what did they write?
do not use any abbrasive materials like bar keepers friend on Gel coat unless you are prepared to compound and wax the entire boat
toothpaste. It sounds crazy but works very well it has just enough abrassive in it to romoves marker but will not scratch the surface.

Goof Off will take it right off but the wax comes off too.
