My son used to have a rule concerning his professors when he was in college…“Don’t piss them off”
I tried to adhere to his rule when sending my extra comments.

Monday May 13, the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council voted 10 to 3 during a special webinar meeting to approve a 1.814 million lbs. (whole weight) annual catch limit for black sea bass for 2013, 2014 and 2015 in Snapper-Grouper Amendment 19.

While this is good news for fishermen, it could have been better.
I supported a higher ACL alternative, which was based on the council’s Scientific and Statistical Committee’s conservative catch level recommendations and would have resulted in nearly a half a million more pounds of fish and almost $10 million more in economic benefit for fishermen. Council Chairman David Cupka (SC) joined me in supporting the higher ACL alternative.
The ACL that was approved would result in a recreational ACL of about 940,000 lbs. (gutted weight) versus the current ACL of 409,000 lbs. (gw). Based on fishing effort from last season, it looks like it would be possible to have a recreational black sea bass season of at least 6 months.
The commercial ACL would be about 709,000 lbs (gw) versus the current ACL of 409,000 lbs. (gw).
Please let me know if you need any additional information.

Just to be clear,we still can’t fish till June 1st and now we get to keep 5 per person instead of 5 per person?

now we get to keep 5 per person
Doesn’t make any sense, but then again the whole shut-down didn’t make any sense either.
I can’t understand why 5 fish at 13" for 6 months is the majic bullet when 15 fish at 12" with no closed season was making a positive impact before the shutdown.
Am I missing something?
Eventually they will turn us all into criminals for fishing…So be it!!! Catch um up…Mike
