Catching and keeping 60 mauis is possible and done. Don’t burn me at the stake, I hate these dumb a$$ regs plenty. That being said it wouldn’t hurt my feelings to see the boat limit at 45.

Sure would be nice if just one person from any the fishery management agencies would enter into the conversations on CF!!

Never see it. I think even Cupka knows better than to show up at a gun fight with a base ball bat.
Phin was right on were the BSB will go. In between a couple of nice Black Drum the 6-8" BSB are rediculous at the P.I. reef.

*** I won’t mention her name and think that their Public Information Officer is actually very nice, very professional, and not a bad person at all. I just think that it’s a little odd that such a small organization relies on this type of public shield… It’s almost as if they know all of the news is going to be bad before they even figure it out… Nahhhh… I’m probably just being paranoid…

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>I have actually been over to the SAFMC offices a few times and one on one they have always been very easy to work with! Just as you mentioned Kim has always been very nice and professional.
** Can you imagine what could be accomplished if they would just work with us instead of cramming this “overfishing” crap down our throats. I still can’t get the image of Cupka at one of the “Public Information Forums” staring off into space as I think it was Mark Brown (might be wrong on the person) was actually proving that the data they were using was seriously flawed!!! I left shortly after that realizing they really could care less…

DownandOut, the problem is:
- They already have their mind made up. When you come in there to discuss things, they look at you and think, “Man, we appreciate this guy, but we’ve already had conversations about everything he is saying and just need to educate him on what the right answer is”.
- Some of these members have been trying to leverage the use of MPA’s for more than 20+ years (which is well documented). They are chomping at the bit to get these in place. Many of them feel that the ONLY effective way to manage the fishery is through large scale MPA’s (kind of like the 98’-240’ closure from SC to FL that they tried to pull off with the red snapper issue). If you believe something in your heart for the past 20+ years, it’s going to be VERY hard to be swayed from some “fishermen” who comes into your office for 20 minutes…
Again, a few of these guys made up their mind 20+ years ago what the answer is. This is the classic example of one losing objectivity when looking at new data that comes in. Their opinion is already biased and new data must fit their existing beliefs to be considered.
There is really only one way to solve that problem… And as sellsfish has said many times, that is getting some “new blood” in some of the seats. Get rid of the oldest members who are nothing more than “influencers” in the organization. They aren’t evil people. They just have the wrong answer…

- Who’s got room for 60 Dolphin on their boat?
- That’s a lot of fish to clean.
- Is there really enough time to catch 60 in a day? I mean, it could be done, but seriously, that’s a tough task to accomplish. Yes, a big boat with a very experienced crew could do it.
- Does anybody know a crew that brought back 60 this year?
But still, do we even need a limit in SC?
I have been out when it was possible to keep 120. It’s been a few years, but 06-09 were unreal. Also those guys in the OBX will keep 60 pnutts in a skinny minute.
