I know its hard to tell in videos but i was the other guy… He was fining towards it but he was pulling hard… Just a freak shot I have seen his gun skewr 35 lb grouper no problem
You could always use a slip tip with a line shaft and you can put a lot more pressure on it assuming you got a good shot. The primary problem with that shot was that it was too far, and you probably didn’t get good penetration of the spear at that range.
That was me in the video yelling to airbus to chase the fish while i reloaded .
We always fish while we wait to dive again and we caught a big bonita that the barracudas ate in half. It wasnt 30 seconds and two big sharks came right up to boat and tried to get the left overs. Kinda scary seeing 2 10 foot sharks right after you just surfaced with bleeding fish.
The shot was at 10ft with a Riffe padauk 3xs which has more than enough range. I think i hit him high and it tore off his skin. Other fish from longer range have had no problem. It was his lucky day!
Like I said we were cursed on that dive…
Had a better day than the bonita though

It was a big grunt. I am used to seeing them in south florida where they are everywhere on the reefs.
It was definately a black grunt the video made it look huge but it was only because it was right in front on the window about 2 feet from the gopro. I had seen him in there earlier in the dive… He was a big grunt though
