It looks like the SAFMC may give us a little relief. If approved, Amendment 23 will not take effect until this time next year:
Action 3. Adjustment to recreational bag limit of black sea bass
Alternative 1 (No action). Do not adjust the recreational bag limit for black sea bass. The recreational bag limit of black sea bass is 5 fish per person per day.
Alternative 2. Increase the recreational bag limit of black sea bass to 6 fish per person per day.
Alternative 3. Increase the recreational bag limit of black sea bass to 7 fish per person per day.
Alternative 4. Increase the recreational bag limit of black sea bass to 8 fish per person per day.
Alternative 5. Increase the recreational bag limit of black sea bass to 9 fish per person per day.
Alternative 6. Increase the recreational bag limit of black sea bass to 10 fish per person per day.

Before we get overzealous, we need to make sure that “10 fish per day” doesn’t backfire resulting in a 6 month fishing season. I would rather go for them being open all year with a slightly smaller than 10 fish bag…
If they had any idea what they were doing it would be 10 fish with a 12 inch limit and no potting. Commercial potters are who kills them. They have a smaller size limit. Ever had a spot you couldn’t get away from 11-12" fish then one day they were gone? Potters cleaned them out while the recreational guys can’t keep any.

Here's the kicker... One of the commercial guys on the council is pushing for a NO SIZE LIMIT FOR COMMERCIAL... I suppose it's in their best interest so that they can fill the quota faster and move on to fishing for something else.
Yes, but the point is, if they INCREASE the daily bag limit, we want to make sure that they don't increase it too much where they will come back and close the season early once they have perceived ACL met.
I don’t know that this is what will happen, but let’s use logic here… Why would they give us this list of options, “Hey guys, do you want to keep 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 black sea bass”? Uhhhh… Obviously there are some ramifications as to why you would go with 7 versus 10.
With the weather we have had this season, and present forecast, I don’t see how we will hit any ACL this year!

Remember, we aren't the only state in the ACL, and secondly they use fuzzy math that would magically fill the quota even in the middle of the apacalypse.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I’ve always been a proponent of commercial size limits matching Rec size limits. Makes zero sense to have two different size limits.
I like the 7 fish bag limit for now, and maybe the 10 later. I believe if we double the bag limit they will use it make seasonal closures in the very near future.
I would even be in favor a split-type of limit. Maybe 7 fish @ 12 or 13 inches and 2 or 3 more fish if they are over 15 inches.
