The exec summary says some amazing stuff.
BSB south of Cape Hatteras are by some miracle not overfished however, even though they are no longer over fished they are still experiencing overfishing.
HOW can that happen?
The fishery is so bad that it has to be closed for most of the year. Suddenly, it is actually recovered but it is still being ovefished despite the fact that no one is fishing for them
What a bunch of crap

Overfished is a threshold condition… Overfishing is a rate at which you are approaching that condition…
For instance, you can be “overspending”, but not yet “flat broke”…
Let’s say you have $1000 in your checking account and the bank will penalize you when you have less than $300 in your account (overfished limit), you make $100 per week, but you are spending $200 each week, then you are “overspending” since eventually you will hit zero. Since you still have $1000, you are NOT overfished, but you ARE overfishing your account. Once your balance is less than the $300 minimum limit, then you are “overfished”. To be NOT overfished, you need to stay above $300. To be NOT overfishing, you need to be spending LESS than $100 each week since this is your income.
Either way, this means a reduction in fishing.
How can you go from being flat broke to having money in the bank if you keep withdrawing at a faster rate than you deposit
Will 2012 see a 1 fish limit?

They are saying that we have NOT hit "flat broke" yet and we are not even under our minimum limit but that we are headed in that direction. They are saying that if we don't curb our spending, we will eventually get there.
I’m not agreeing with their analysis. It’s pretty obvious that black sea bass are like the gnats of the ocean. I’m just translating to you what they are saying, since most fishermen get hung up on the terminology…
Do you have a link to the summary?

Some of the finer points:
“Therefore, the RP concludes the stock is not overfished, but it is currently not rebuilt. In addition, the RP concludes the stock is currently subject to overfishing…most of these runs, but not all, suggested that overfishing is still occurring”
“The major sources of uncertainty in the stock assessment are related to monitoring the recreational fishery”
“Not all data were available or used. Where data were absent, such as landings or discards data
missing from some fleets early in the time series, reasonable decisions were made in filling these
gaps to allow the model to fit.”

How the phuck can overfishing be happening with a 6 month, 5 fish limit??
Simple Redstripe.
Any time anyone is allowed to fish, EDF Jane and her band of preservationist DBags will claim it to be overfished

Their models are pretty rediculous. The worst part is that they don’t even know how to interpret the data that comes out of them. And when the data doesn’t seem to give them the answer that they were looking for, they manipulate the data! How scientific is that?
I need to post pics of our last legal day, two weeks ago. It was sick a limit in 20 minutes at one spot, and it was off to hunt for Gags, Scamps, triggers, and B-Liners. I am now also a grunt catching (and keeping and eating) machine…ha ha…
400 pages of BS to tell us what WE told them at the last meeting…
