Black Stuff Growing on Boat

What is black and grows on boats, fiberglass too but especially vinyl? It showed up like mold/mildew, and Using a cover I deal with some mold. But this is different.

The mold I’ve dealt with disappears totally with a little bleach solution. This will barely budge. Nor does it respond to Mold Armor, West’s recommendation. Looking closely, the appearance is like small black dots. Just when you think you’ve seen every boat problem…

Thanks

Pic?

Will try to post tomorrow. Good idea.

What year boat and make? The best defense is to have a good layer of wax on it. The wax will seal the gelcoat, wich will make cleaning easier.

I get this on the unfinished surfaces of my pioneer as well… Mostly center console, leaning post and bilge… Where glass doesn’t have a gel finish

Mine is more on vinyl, but also on non-skin surface. Regular mold shows up on hatch doors, etc. but I can fix that. Have not noticed this on unfinished surfaces.

Boat is two years old.

we see that from time to time, and if its the same thing we see, it is mold, its just farther down in the pores of the upholstery.
trying using the same bleach solution you have been using, just make sure the area is dry before using it.
if you wet it first, the mold spores act like a sponge, and absorb the water, then the bleach doesn’t penetrate well, it sort of just rinses off.

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING

Take the cushions off the boat if you can if using bleach. Bleach takes wax off.

Thanks for the tips. Will try next week when I return.

OnaMission, I have the same problem on my boat for the first time this year. I found that a little elbow grease and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser takes it off. Just my opinion. . But I’m sure guys like looper and ChrisV would be better to listen to as they are MUCH more experienced than I am with this stuff.

Seasick, good to know others having this issue. Will try your suggestion.

Wipe down with outdoor Clorox and leave it on in the sunshine for 15-20 min. worked for mine!

I get oxylic acid in a bug sprayer and do a quick rinse spray the acid (pre mix in warm water) than scrub the boat and rinse off immediately. I like to use a turtle wax or the autozone purple was/was after because oxylic straight up will clean snd strip any wax or protection on the boat…

Good tips
Thanks
