Almost identical trip for us. We pushed off Patriots Point around 4:15 and jockeyed through the channel traffic which I assume was heavy at night because of the sailing races going on during the day.Hit sw banks around 7am and HST all the way to gtown hole and back with no love. Temps hit 70 degrees around the hole but their was no life up there. Returned just north of the sw banks and switched to meat and started getting multiple BFT hookups. Very cool watching the BFT busting the flying fish jumping 20 ft out the water to only be met with their doom when returning to the ocean. Lots of fun.

That’s a good day.

Great to see some catching and some horse blackfin.
Sweeeeeeeeet.
Man that tuna looks good. How does a BFT rate fight wise compared to dolphin, etc??

To me the bft fight harder than dolphin, stronger runs, felt more head shakes as they got closer to the boat.

Wow. Would those be considered humongous footballs, or am I crazy? Regardless, good job gettin’ on 'em.

Shoot- we were out there with you. Hit 70 degrees and then pulled bait bw Gtown Hole and SW Banks with nothing. Sounds like we should have headed a bit North! Great work!

BFT run hard. Harder than Mahi and less hard than wahoo. When they get closer to the boat they do the “tuna circle” down and usually throw in some head shakes. Its just a matter of being patient and lifting them with each wind up to the surface for an easy gaff.
We had fair amount of short strikes on islanders and joe shutes baited with pin rigged medium ballyhoo. Caught our fair share but also pulled up more than a few half eaten baits which I wasn’t thrilled with.Might try straight sea witches and naked ballyhoos next time.We did catch a few on feathers and chugger lures as well.quote]Originally posted by DFreedom

Why doesn’t that skipjack get any recognition?

Agree. We caught a couple last year, bled them good and cut our the blood line and they were solid eating in Japanese Poke recipe. I’ll keep/eat skippers!
