Is the threaded axel supposed to have a flat side?
Eewww… is this still part of hub left on axle? If it is, then I’d put my baddest pair of vice grips on what’s lefts. If that’s a no go, drop the axle and bring into a shop? Add a little more of an explanation and you will probably get some worthwhile replies.

Cory ; what i see is the broken, and siezed inner bearing race… Go to lowes and get a dremmel with a cut off blade , cut the broken siezed race at a diagonal and it should come right off , it’s not a hard task but a cut off tool is almost a gotta have tool to do it…This is an easy diy with the right tools , install new bearings and seals; grease real good, go catch em up!!!

Exactly. Dremmel tool is the only way. Cut it almost all the way through, the split it with a chizzl. Emery cloth when done

YES,THE FLAT SPOT IS SUPPOSE TO BE THERE.
THERE IS A SPECIAL WASHER THAT HAS A TAB THAT LAYS IN THAT FLAT SPOT WHEN YOU INSTALL THE NUT, YOU BEND THE UP AND IT STOPS NUT FROM TURNING.

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING
FROM THE PICTURE I CANT TELL IF ITS GREASE OR ACTUAL THREAD DAMAGE, WHERE THE FLAT SPOT MEETS THE THREADS.
IF ITS DAMAGE, A SMALL TRIANGLE JEWELERS FILE (A SET IS LESS THAN $5 FROM HARBOR FREIGHT) WILL ALLOW YOU TO CLEAN UP THE THREADS SO YOU CAN PROPERLY RE-INSTALL THE NUT.
THE OTHER GUYS SUGGESTIONS OF CUTTING THE RACE WITH A GRINDER IS EXACTLY WHAT WE WOULD DO HERE AT TEH SHOP.
KEEP IN MIND, YOU HAVE THE EXACT SAME THING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TRAILER, THAT YOU CAN USE TO SEE EXTACLY WHAT ITS SUPPOSE TO LOOK LIKE.
I WOULD ALSO STRONGLY SUGGEST CHANGING THE BEARINGS ON THE OTHER SIDE NOW, WHILE YOU ARE ALREADY IN THIS PROJECT. IT HAS THE SAME AMOUNT OF WEAR THAT THE FAILED UNIT HAS.

Chisel can work, but be extremely careful. Bearings and races are hardened and can shatter when hit with a chisel or hammer.
When you get your inner bearing off look for blueing (heat) and signs that bearing “spun” on the spindle. If see signs of this you may need a new spindle.
Many times if you have a torch all you have to do is heat a little bit and they will knock right off before heat transfers to the spindle.
Well im going to replace both to be safe. Luckly there was no real damage from the bearing failure. A little rub on the finder and that was it. Thanks for the help this was my first time dealing with any hub problems. This would of been avoidable or at least a lot easier if i would of done routine maitnence of the hub or updated them qith replacement since i didnt know how old or what condition they were when they came with the boat.
Where and what brand hub would yall recommend? Id prefer to get it locally so i can get this done tomorrow.

Go to Charleston trailer! Bring the old hubs and they will make sure they match the new ones. They also have very good prices even compared to online.

16’ Alumacraft // 20hp Yamaha
14’ War Eagle // 9.8hp Tohatsu

After seeing more of the pics, I would suggest trashing both hubs and replace with all new hubs and bearings… Northern tool , Tractor Supply or Harbor freight will have them in stock at a reasonable price… I trailer from the upstate and believe me a solid maintenance plan will save your butt from issues like this… I grease before every long haul , check hub temps at each gas, pee, or food stop , and allow hubs to cool to ambient temp before backing trailer into water ie,maintenance , maint, maint, and more maint…

New hubs on both sides. Charleston trailer was help full and installation is way easier than removal. Sprayed some corrosion blocker Hd on there for extra preventive measures and will routinly grease and inspect in the future.
All dirty from the first trip on new hubs, they rode great. Now the engine is not peeing.
