They’ll drown in a bucket of water or ice water.
They’ll die without moisture.
Best to put them in a brown paper bag and put them in a refrigerator, I’d think. Raul used to keep them in peach baskets in his refrigerator by the dock, I guess that’s house fish houses do it. If you have to put them in the garage, I’d put them on top of ice in a cooler, but keep them out of the water.
They’re trash pretty quickly after they die.

No! They have to be kept cool and damp. Put a bag or 2 of ice in a cooler, pull drain plug, cover ice with a wet croaker sack, newspaper or brown paper. Crabs on top, then another wet sack on top of them. Don’t close the lid too tight and suffocate them either. They will stay alive several days like that.

Thanks for the help. We used to keep them in a wooden crate in the garage when we intended to use them for bait and they were always alive the next day. Didn’t know if they were that hearty or we were just lucky. Oysters i always keep in the cooler with ice and the drain pulled.
