blue crab

I put three baskets out for two days caught prob bout 25 crabs. only bout four males, just wondern if everybody is getn this or maybe somebody got the males?

I caught a lot of females from local piers this season too. Noticed the same thing you did.

yea they are off seems kinda like the shrimp season maybe has somethn to do with the mild winter as well,

Haven’t crabbed in a couple of months but did a good bit over the Summer. It seemed to me that we caught mostly females until late Summer then started catching males after that.

Most of them have moved out to the ocean. A good friend of mine has been averaging 25 bushels a day of males, crabbing the offshore side of Hilton Head and Daufuskie.

I’m still catching males way up near Limehouse on the Stono. Usually, the closer I get to the ocean, the more likely I am to catch females. Has to do with the salinity of the water. Eventually though as mentioned, the males will move out to the ocean and it’ll be tough to come by one. Last weekend, I caught 30 keeper males in within 2 miles of the ocean. I was surprised. Also, last winter I was able to buy males all winter. That’s a first in 25 years.
