anybody know where/who I can get some blue crabs for bait?
Any seafood store. Soft shells are in season right now, heard they are great bait. Personally I feel am at the top of the food chain and will not be feeding fish my food!
If you know of a crabber, ask them for peelers. They aren’t as expensive as the soft crab! They are great redfish bait right now!!!
Marvins Seafood on Dorchester has them but they’re $23 dozen. Capt. Dons on Sav HWY has some too!
Capt. D Strang
softshell would be exspensive bait!
Be careful of having undersized crabs in your boat too! Might be a problem unless you have a commercial crabbing license and are selling the peelers under that…not 100% positive on the rules. It know there’s a minimum legal size for regular crabs for both recreational and commercial folks otherwise.

thank you for all the responses. I used to have a commercial crab fisherman that lived in my neighborhood who turned me on to use blue crab and I have never fished the cooper river with anything else. now that he no longer fishes im trying to find somebody at the bushy park boat landing. I went this morning and didn’t see any crabbers, might be too early but im not sure
Not to belittle a point, but if your crabber is not a wholesale dealer don’t buy from him. If he is gifting the crabs, you’re ok. All seafood caught in SC commercially, must be processed through a Wholesale seafood dealer. Be careful.

buy from anyone who is selling
Trade him a 12 pack. They are an awesome bait, unless you are eat up with pin fish. You are in Charleston. I am sure any fish monger has them.
