Boy, I would like to catch one of those beasts.
Awesome fish!!! With the help from a few of you all I think I now have the right gear so, now it is just a matter of a hungry fish and being in the right place at the right time. And I forgot the most important thing. LUCK!!!

Can somebody refresh my memory on how Bluefin charters work in NC (or anywhere else, I guess)? The boat keeps the fish no matter what, right? And how many fish do charter boats get to kill per season?
Enquiring minds want to know…

Unless its one of the smaller school sized fish the boat keeps the fish and the trip is free. At least thats how it was last time we went.
most of the ones I have talked to give you the option. you keep the fish you catch and you pay for charter as usual, opt. 2–you give the boat the fish and your trip is for free

I fished with Cpt Eugene Landis with the Bullfighter this past weekend out of Southport. We fished the knuckle bouy and the around the slue and end up going east side of the shoals on Saturday -12 hours. Sunday (8 hrs) we tried a little further south and west. Water was cold (51) and we marked some good bait in areas but no fish. Pressure kicked from + to - Saturday morning and stayed negative the rest of the weekend. One boat did land an 80 incher on Saturday morning. We even saw some 20 foot center consoles out there - those guys are brave or stupid in 4 foot seas. Good luck to all that go.

We were out there in a 24 footer. The seas werent that bad but I could have done without the cold. By the time we got to the knuckle the boat was covered in ice.
