Blue fish

Blues are in and biting hard, cutting off grubs. Take allot of grubs and treble hooks with you if you want to have a good hook ups on the blues. My son and I caught five trout, six blues and lost at least 20 blues and one flounder Wednesday this week. Bites were in the holes and temp was 64. Anybody eat blue fish. Good luck

Small snapper blues are quite good eating, especially fried. If I have enough of them, I fillet and skin them. Beefier ones need to the dark bloody meat cut out. Smaller ones, no big deal. Bread and fry, they are quite good. Flavor is similar to speckled sea trout, a touch stronger but in a good way, IMO.

I seldom catch them big enough around here to be overly strong tasting.

My father fished the Outer Banks some and they would cut the blues tail off, through it in a bucket to flop around and bleed out.

Yes, bleed them out when you catch them. I usually cut the gills but the tail can work.

Blues are real good smoked and if they are slammers then try the cheek it’s a nice size chunk and is nothing like the rest of the fish.

Would you use hickory, mesquite, red oak, alder, or perhaps hard (sugar) maple? I can get any of these, but have more access to the hickory or red oak. Can also get cherry chunks.
