Got the late invite to go, moma wasn’t happy but took one of the kids and ran for the door. Off to the outter banks. A crew of two dads and two two kids and a captain. Got to the boat at 5 and listened to the bad news about the weather. 6-9’s at 25-35 k’s. After sitting on it for a few hours we decided to try it. Got the lines wet around 10, no bites, nothing. The seas went flat, 1-3’s in a light swell.
We started marking some fish at 40fa but nothing moving on top at all. About 1pm two lines goes screaming, thinking they were yellowfins we keep trolling till the 80’s were getting close to the spoll. This ended being a mistake. After a few minutes trying to crank the fish, they were not budging much. 45 mintues both fish get
close to the boat. They came up with friends. At one time there were maybe 20 bluefins whaling in the propwash area. We release both fish estimated at 130# each.
Pitched the lines out, nothing. Started back on the troll, 4 lines go screaming. Everyones on a reel. Got one kid in the chair, ones fighting it from the rod holder. Got three in after a grolling one hour battle. Keep one fish shown here (127# gutted) that was angled by the 12 year old without help.
Finished the day with 16 fish, 15 released est. between 120-190lbs… All first timers on bluefins. Arms shot. Still having muscle spazimms on my left forearm enough to spill a beer. 4 cherrys popped on bluefins. Smooth ride in…
Tell the young gentleman that was a heck of a job and he deserves a big pat on the back and congradulations from ReelNauti on such a great fish. GREAT JOB!!!
