Fished south and offshore of the 226. Fished from 1600’ to 1850’ on a 2.5 dgr temp break, 75.2 on one side and 77.7 on the other all ripped up with a good amount of weed starting to form. Only got the full spread set one time all day. Caught several Bulls in the mid to upper thirties. Had the first daymaker in the mid fourties bust out of the fishbox and over the transom. Steve about dislocated his shoulder diving to catch him.
The real day maker Bull grabbed a dangling bait as we were putting one in the box, I’m talking a GROWN BULL! He bit the 50 on the right long and smoked the reel for a good 30 seconds. At first I thought we may have hooked up on a billfish until he jumped 300 yds out. Fought him for an hour and 15 minutes, had the leader 3 times, just couldn’t get control. This fish would easily push 60lbs. Everytime we’d back down on him he would sound and get his strength back. Third time at the leader he dove under the boat and caught the leader in the wheel. Needless to say there was some fowl language to be heard in the cockpit!!! Ended up with 20 nice fish upto 35-40 lbs. A few pulled hooks on really nice Bulls and released quite a few smaller ones.
The big fish are here, you need to find the 76-77 dgr water.
Catch’m up!
