My girlfriend hates a catfish. She was stuck with one in the hand as a little girl (normal handling- nothing this foolish!) and now if we happen to catch one she heads the other way. She wants nothing to do with it!
I’d forward her this video but she would assume I was just checking out the young girls in bikinis…and she wouldn’t be wrong.
i used to fish for cats a lot when my dad was living. we would be on the tail race canal catching loads of frying size fish and every now and then you would get finned. he advised me to rub the cats butt over the fin spot. i thought that he was messing with me until i tried it once and the pain went away quickly and was never sore later. believe it or not; it works.

If it were me I would have held on to the fish then pointed at the surf line and yelled “Shark” and then yanked it out … Wouldn’t have hurt me one little bit …

That’s a saltwater cat…oh wee! That’s gonna hurt like a mofo in couple of days. It just about doesn’t get worst than those. They got a barb on the end like a hook.

Agreed … Liz still has an indentation in the top of her foot from when one slipped the hook and landed on her foot … That was 10 years ago

Had a buddy of mine get one of those stuck in the palm of his hand. Got infected to…it was no laughing matter after that. I used to grab them with my hand to unhook them, but after that incident I now use pliers. I rank them right up there with stingrays.

I simply have no words for how stupid some people are, but was worth watching for the laughs…
I know how much they hurt, and depending on where they get you determines how bad it is. Mine hurt within seconds and I had to quit fishing and go home to get it cleaned up. Went back out right after (bonus when your boat stayed on the water). Had a friend when I was a kid end up in the hospital after getting one in the thigh.
I still grab them from the belly with my fingers under the pectoral fins. Best way I have found to keep them still when I unhook them.
Remember life is short so always remember your Family, Friends, and Fish every chance you get!
