Need to have a cover made for a 22’ Bay Boat. What is the typical cost for a cover? I know there are different grades in materials so what would be the cost for mid grade and high grade?
Anyone locally make these?

Back when my boat was much newer I bought a custom Sunbrella cover for what I believe was $480. My boat is a 17’ center console. After a few years the Sunbrella lost it’s water repelancy. I paid $80 for a gallon of 303 Protectant that was suppose to rejuvenate the Sunbrella. It worked about a year. The Sunbrella cloth is in good shape , it’s just not water proof any more. I think I’m gonna go with a vinyl coated material and just make sure there is good circulation under it. It’s time to replace it. I believe I’ll go with a pre made, one size fits all and save my money for gas.

$20 Wal-mart tarp. Bungee Cords. Replace annually. Be creative in making support so the water doesn’t puddle.
Obviously if you need to to trailer w/ cover this won’t work
Darren over at LaPorte’s makes the "T-Top Covers. He made mine for a SeaFox 225 Bay Boat and I love it. Easy for 1 person to put on or take off. Fits up under the T-top so air flows thru the inside which eliminates mold and mildew. Prices vary but a quality product.

Got mine for my 23’ SeaPro from TTopcovers. Totally custom so it was not cheap but very well made. 1st class products and 1st class customer relations! I’ve had it for 2 years and looks brand new. Would anticipate using it for 10 more years if the boat lasts that long. PM me if you want to know the price.

To keep critters from gaining access have the cover fit down along your transom and cover motor cowling separately.
Topsides can’t be too tall on a bayboat so for a little more coin have the cover extend to the waterline to keep the sun off. I found this keeps bugs from making homes in thru-hull fittings up underneath the cover too.
Those who make quality custom covers will suggest what they know will work and will stand behind their work.

I’m @ 5 years on my t-top cover and the boat stays at the dock so it takes a beating. Washed it in a commercial washer @ laundromat looks like new.
Kevin at T-Top Covers off of Dorchester Road made a cover for my 22’ Scout Winyah Bay. It looks and works very well.
I went down to the Fl. Keys last week for a little vacation and saw several boats that had a shrink wrap cover on them They weren’t the type that you see on new boats being transported but rather a reusable cover that is custom fitted. Google up Transhield reusable boat covers and watch the Youtube video. I am going to get one for my skiff.

I can’t say enough good things about my cover from t top covers/laportes. It is on it’s 5th season now and still looks great. I live on the water so we get alot of heavy wind and it has not shown any signs of being stressed. I can install it by myself in under 5 minutes which is very inportant to me. A good friend of mine uses tarps to cover his boat, sure they are cheap, but they take a least 20 minutes to put on not to mention they hold water, blow off or tear during storms, and are a real eyesore. As mentioned before Bendt Marine does custom covers as well. I have never purchased one from them, but have used them for multiple other projects including boat cushions and t-top canvas and they do excellent work.
