So, I am planning (hoping) to redo the interior of my hull this fall. I’ve pretty much decided (based on input from the CF brain trust) to go with a 2-part epoxy paint and Kiwi Grip panels for non-skid. I have a couple places where there are holes cut through the deck to mount hardware that I want to eliminate (see pics).
My plan is to put a layer of fiberglass cloth underneath the holes, cut “plugs” from marine plywood to fill in the holes and then put a layer of fiberglass cloth over the top of the holes and then paint. Is this the “proper” way to fill in these holes, or is there a better way?
I would just plug that larger hole. I would cut a bigger hole around it to the under layer of glass, being carful not to cut all the way through. Remove plug but not fiberglass. This will give you something to bond the plug to. Then just glass over. I would also go against painting the hull in good 2 part shiny paint. As rough of a finish the sides are, its going to look terrible. I would really look at coating the whole inside with a liner material, like Grizzley Grip.
