Has anyone had a problem with critters eating the upholstery on their boat. For 3 or 4 years I have left my 18’ center console either in the water or on my boat float. In just the last few days, something( I suspect otters) has chewed up the the center console upholstered seat. I have a friend on Paulkie Island that had the same problem with the padded seats in his skiff. If anyone knows of preventive measures to take to stop the grazing on my seats, I would love to hear it!
You might try putting a cloth sack full of moth balls on the seat. Them suckers repel everything but grandmothers.

Thanks guys for all your interesting suggestions. A Savannah dock builder had a similar problem that he solved by “marking” his floatng dock with human urine. He thought the otters were nesting between the floats under his dock and were chewing up anything upholstered to use for nest material. I just returned from making an application on my dock. We will see.
This worked for me. I filled an old set of panty hose with dog hair ( I got the the hair from a neighbor’s vacume, they have Labs). I tied it under the leaning post under the cover. No more otter trouble. Hope this helps!
Around Lake Murray, you’ll see a lot of people put a fake owl on their docks and boats. It will keep the geese and sea gulls away and probably would work on otters and muskrats also. These fake owls are sold for this purpose.
