Boat Electrics

Is there a good boat electrical shop in Greenville other than Portronics?

I’m trying to get the Trailer Trash ready for the PUOSU.

What type of electrical work does your boat need Big Wes? Perry Haymes here in Simpsonville, is an exceptional Marine Mechanic! I’ll try and find his phone number if you’d like.

I killed my boat, electrically speaking. I made a “c” in basic electricity and airframe electricity. I need somebody who can fix me up locally and quick. I’d appreciate the help.

Again, just what type of help do you need? If it’s just some wiring, I can help you with it. If you need some more experienced help, I can help there also! I don’t mind helping to try, and solve your issues at all. No $, just trying to help! Seeya, Scott

No on Port-Tronics. All they know how to do is install what you’d normally find on a bass boat. I dropped in and asked them if they could install VHF’s, GPS, anything you’d normally find on a boat used in saltwater, and I got a cross-eyed look. They aren’t a bad outfit, just not familiar with anything other than freshwater.
If you’d like some help or direction, let me know–I have installed the electronics on three of my boats.

Back before the new owners, I’d have put port-tronics up against anyone in the business. Now it’s the hangout for the local Bass Pros, and the wanna be Bass Pros. Not much more than a glorified tackle shop!

That’s what my experience was with Portronics before.

I dunno what the heck is up with the Trailer Trash. My friend Bill and I were going to try and figure out what the heck was up with the lights, gauges, radio, and depthfinder. He was in the cabin looking at the back side of the instrument panel, and I decided to run the trim/tilt up and down a couple of times. On the way back up, something died and the engine is stuck in the up position, it will not turn over, and we still haven’t done a thing with the lights. I had a 50 amp starting charge on the battery for about 3 min. before I switched it to 10 amps and ran the motor up and down one time. I have a Perko battery switch, but only had one battery installed on Bat # 1.

Sounds like a bad, or weak ground at the battery to me.

Not the ground at the battery or the connections on the Perko switch. It’s too dang humid to be messing around with a boat parked in the drive exposed to direct sun. Not enough beer in the fridge to over come the resulting wllt.

Big Wes, where you at? Shoot me a PM if you want. I will swing by we can figure it out.
