Boat floor non skid

Anyone ever used a roll on floor liner in a aluminum boat with success? I have a aluminum boat with vinyl and it is very dinghy and I wanted to make it look new again. I like the idea of line x but, the price is high. I was looking at products like Tuff Coat, Evercoat, Kiwi Grip, Durabak, Sani Tred. Any comments good or bad?

I’ve used them all. Kiwi Grip is my favorite.

Cracker, you think it would look nice rolled over aluminum floor and interior sides?

I just went to the local automotive store and bought some of the stuff in the spray can. I went with the fine grit kind. It’s worked good on our aluminum floor, but one spot has started chipping around a screw… the rest is stuck good though.

I’ve never used the stuff, but I would assume that you would have to do the same prep work as you would if you were painting. Thorough cleaning, scuff or sanding, and primer(for aluminum).

Larry, do you think we need to vinegar wash (etch) the aluminum first?

It would probably be a good idea, Matt. I just read the instructions on the can and it says surfaces should degreased with cleaner and de-glossed by sanding or etching. It didn’t specifically mention aluminum but I assume that’s what they meant with etching.

Primer isn’t necessary but it will produce a more uniform color. With the lighter colors of KG, the base color tends to show through if it’s darker than the KG.

I’ve personally never used it on aluminum, but know people who have.

X2 on the Kiwigrip. I restored a fiberglass jonboat and did the deck with it. Super easy to put down, easy clean up and wears really well. The sailboat industry has been using it for years.

This is the “after”. The Kiwigrip is the lighter color.
