I gave the flats fishing a shot just didn’t do it for me. My actioncraft is for sale if anyone is interested. My question, would a 25’cc be sufficient boat to fish offshore out of charleston. I would have all the safety gear. How far max do you have to go to get into good fish wahoo dolphin tuna.
Yes, a 25’ boat will work just fine for going off shore. You’re about to get a computer screen full of everyone’s opinion on safety gear.
Be ready for everything! Have two ways to comunicate, two ways to get your position, at least one emergency system to alert people if you are in trouble, ways to fix your boat on the water, a manual bilge pump, extra food/water, and on and on . . . . . AND ON! Do some searching on the forum here for “safety gear” or something like there. This question has been answered a lot on this forum.
To hit even 100’ of water, you have to get 35 miles out from the jetties. To hit the usual temp breaks at the right time of the year, you’re talking 50 to 60 mies out, one way to the fishing grounds. That is just to hit the Western edge of the fishing area’s sometimes. For bottom fishing, it can be a lot less distance.

I have a beautiful solid 35’ Marlin turn key ready if are serious. Completely rigged out. Tight Lines. (843) 592-1457.
so whats the specs on the action craft?
“Fish On”
For offshore charleston around the 25’ range, this is an excellent boat at a reasonable price to get into offshore fishing. I have no dog in this hunt, just noticed this in the classifieds today.

Turbo, not trying to hijack your thread here, but Sireks mentioned something I had a question about.
Sireks, how far for the bottom fishing you mentioned? From the jetties of course.

Depends. On the season, what you are looking to catch, and so forth. I am no where near the authority on what species is where at what time out there in the deep blue. However, people go to the near shore reefs (close in around 7 to 12 miles or so), there are multiple live bottom areas in the 30ish mile range, and numerous places out at 50 miles and beyond. And beyond that there are some deep water holes. There are SO MANY places to fish for bottom species off Charleston.
There are many on this forum who are much smarter than me. Like I said, I do know enough from these great people, that different species can be found in different areas at different times of the year. Some move in from deep water to shallower water, some leave the inshore waters for the deeper waters, etc. If you post a specific question as to what species you are looking for, you’ll get some good answers.

I wouldn’t hesitate to go in a 25. Any center console is going to beat the hang out of you if its rough. Just got to pick good days and make sure you have enough fuel.
thank you for the advice. Im from the northeast and have done a ton of canyon fishing so the long haul is not an issue or the safety gear. I just wanted to get an idea about what people use.
The action craft is for sale at rogue motion.
I hope to find something before the season really gets up and going i just want something to hold me over for a season or two until i get started on having a boat built. Not to many downeast builders down in sc haha.
Im going to take the risk and throw this out there as well but if anybody needs crew or someone to throw down for a trip i have a lot of free time with my work schedule. I use to mate up north mostly offshore canyons and bluefin out of cape cod all through high school and college. i also brought a some gear down aswell.
