Boat insurance?

Right now I have progressive and my renewal is up. The cost just keeps creeping up and now its over 2k a year. I am thinking that I should shop it. Whos everyone using for boat insurance?

$2k? Ouch! What kinda boat?

I guess I’m lucky with about $43/month. That’s covering two, and I’m with Progressive.

Its a 28 foot scout twin 250’s. Nothing super fance but thier rates seem a bit high. Ill look him up!

Check with BreadandBobbers from this site as well. There have been several posts recently of folks using him. Company is KSA I believe.

I have mine with BooatUS along with a tow policy. Runs a lot cheaper than $2K/year. And the policy covers any gear lost in the event of a boat loss.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

We send all of our business to Strickland (Gotchacovered), no disrespect to other carriers, they have done a wonderful job for us for many years!

I shopped mine with KSA and although didnt get it due to selling (or trying anyhow) my boat. However they did quote me nearly 40% lower than what I was paying. When I sell this boat and get a new one they will certainly be getting a call.

bulletsrcheap

A lot of carriers will quote you an actually value policy which is typically cheaper than an agreed value policy. Not a problem unless you have a claim. With an agreed value policy you know what you get because it is an agreement between you and the insurance company on what you boat is worth. With an actually value policy deprecation is involved in the equation. IMHO an agreed value policy is much better.

I am currently with Strickland Marine and Chartis is the insurance company. 100k agreed value policy under $600 per year not sure of exact amount. Lee is a stand up guy and I have no doubt he would go to bat for me if there was a problem.

you have to be careful even with agreed value policies. I almost made a mistake. Agent #1 quoted me a very nice price on an agreed value but after 100 questions (from me) I found out it would cost another $100 to have true agreed value coverage on the motor. Had I just went with it I would not have had the coverage I thought I was getting. I don’t know if he was trying to pull a fast one or was just not on top of his game but in either case I went with agent #2 and got what I wanted and for less money.

I would also look at the insurance companies “rating” If it were me I would go with a company with at least A “rating” or better.

In regards to an outboard motor I believe that if the motor is 7 years or older they do an actual value not an agreed value.
