Boat mechanic needed

I have an old 1987 23’ Wellcraft Nova with a Chevy 383 stroker engine. It runs great on land with the scuppers but when we launched it for the first time last week, it tops out at about 10 mph. With that type of horsepower it should reach 70. We checked the compression and it tested fine. I think it’s probably carburetor issues. I tried Duncans and they don’t work on engines like mine. I looked at a few places online and they haven’t returned calls. If anyone knows of a decent reliable boat mechanic that works on boats like mine please let me know. I greatly appreciate it.

HOw does it idle? You check the timing?

New and don’t know what to do

It idles fine. It runs fairly well at about 5-10 mph. We checked and adjusted the throttle linkage and it has no effect. It could be a fuel issue or the Carb. I’m not sure. It’s been frustrating because I have little knowledge and experience working on engines. I talked to someone at Dolphin Cove and they are going to look at it. I’m dropping it off this weekend.

A bad day of fishing Beats a good day at work

I have a boat mechanic who is very reliable, and he works on the side, so hes relatively cheap. His name is Adam- 843-532-0054. He worked on my old scout so he should be able to work on yours.

Give this guy a call. He pretty much only works on I/O’s
