Anyone have a rough idea how expensive it is to have a mold or plug manufactured for a custom designed hull? It’s a pretty simple design, 22-24’ long. Wondering if it would be worth it to farm this part of a boat build out or if it is so expensive, I might as well do it myself. Thanks

I have never done it. but, have thought about trying and have trolled the interwebs for videos and such. some threads on thehulltruth mention costs in the many tens ofthousands of dollars to produce a production quality mold. That general ball park seems about right to me. You gotta’ basically build the hull to produce the plug, by hand. Then, pulling the mold off of the plug is essetially building the boat, agian.

That is a very expensive way to build one boat, it’s only worthwhile when you want to build multiple hulls from the same mold.

Cool, thanks for the responses. It would be to build multiple hulls, its a long term project I’m dreaming of. Still have lots of research to do. Just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with it.
