Boat storage building

My 23ft center console with T top and riggers needs a storage building. I have an unprepared spot in my yard for it, but I don’t know anything about permits or building.

Do you guys have any recommendations for someone to craft an awesome building or carport for me? I’m in Hollywood, and would prefer local rather than an out of state builder. It’s hard to sort through them all online.

Also, do you guys have any cool building examples you might want to share? I would like to know how you guys store your large trailer boats

Check the local zoning requirements in your area to see what you have to do. My suggestion would be to stop by one of these places that have the carports outside for around $695 and look at what they offer. It will cost you more to upsize and make taller than the display, but the add-on features they offer will allow you to make it how you want it. I think you will come out better going this route in the long run. I special ordered 24’ sheets of tin and built my double boat shed out of wood. Wish now I would have went the metal carport route…

What Pit said. I’d go so far as to pour a concrete footing so you can anchor down the carport. That would take a little manual labor but is definitely a DIY project. You could close in the side later if you wanted to.

Metal carport was the choice for me. Fairly inexpensive, and if I sell my house I can take it with me. I got an 18X36 with 9’ sides. It was just under 2 grand installed. I wish I would have gone bigger and taller…

All the metal carports you see in the area are from Boone, NC. All the guys you see around sell the same companies products. You will pay the local guy, then the company from Boone calls and schedules your installation. There were 3 Latino guys that put mine up, they were fast and each one had their own tasks, it was pretty cool so see them work so efficiently. All they needed from me was a 110v power source. I was there first stop, they had 6 other ones to put up that day.
I got the heavier gauge ‘certified’ meaning it was tied down. I did not need permits because it is considered a temporary structure. The local gut gets the down payment you will make as his cut, then you pay for the carport when they have finished. I’ve heard there is one other company that does this in the southeast, but could not find them.
The one I got you can stand on the roof. I got it in December of last year (2014) I am very happy with it. I got the certified one (12 gauge and tied down.) I got the strait panel roof, and two foot higher. It cost me a little over $1400, but you can get the $695 one if you don’t want the ‘add-ons.’ Whoever you order it from will have the inside dimensions for height so you will know if your boat will fit.
Here it is just a few days after they put it in.

In Goose Creek, metal carports are not considered temporary structures and anything over 200sqft requires permits. Straight from the Permit office’s mouth. I asked 2 weeks ago.

Google Images, search for “RV Garage”
This should give you a good idea of what is available.

I don’t prefer the look of a metal carport but if I were to get one the roof has to be vertical like joseph69’s so everything slides off the roof.

Another option would be post frame/pole barn. Enclosed or open.

Expensive option would be a full garage like this one: https://www.thegarageplanshop.com/007g-0010.php
Boat stall is on the left, middle stall for parking tow vehicle, right stall for workshop.

I don’t know what your cool building budget is, but I expect the above garage to run $30-$40K.
