Boat Survey ??'s

Insuring the Bentz-Craft (too late for storm of course) and getting all kinds of push back.

They are telling me I have to do a marine survey for a $10k skiff? Is that normal? Who pays for it? Wouldn’t my build thread suffice in place of it? lol

MOST OF THE TIME DEPENDING ON THE INSURANCE COMPANY ( I WOULD SUGGEST CALLING STRICKLAND MARINE) THEY WILL ALLOW YOU TO INSURE WITH A STATED VALUE
NOT SURE WITH NON BOAT COMPANIES LIKE STATEFARM, ALLSTATE OR NATIONWIDE, BUT COMPANIES THAT SPECIALIZE IN BOATS KNOW THE DEAL.
STRICKLAND WOULD BE MY FIRST CALL, THEN MY SECOND WOULD BE BOAT-US

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING

Mine is with Markel through USAA bc USAA doesn’t do boat or motorcycle insurance directly. I didn’t have to provide much if anything. Been 3 1/2 years so I don’t remember the details. Haven’t needed any claims so I don’t know how that would work out. I just renew every year.

An insurance survey on a boat with that little value would be an unusual requirement. Many companies would insure that without a survey.

It seems most of the questions are based on the manufacturer being Bentz-Craft and the lack of internet knowledge about the boats.

I’ve had to get a survey on mine, it wasn’t cheap but in the long run it was worth it. I found out some potential problems that I had not seen.

This boat was just restored. No need for a survey, I can provide 1000’s of pictures to insurance company.
