Boat Wax

I know this has probably been posted before, but search was not working properly. Is there any difference between Marine wax and car wax besides price and does anyone have a preference or non-preference. I personally use MeGuires on family vehicles.

Thanks

I use a different wax for my boat than I do on our vehicles. I use a marine cleaning wax from walmart with an electric buffer. It will get all the scuff marks out while laying the wax down.

I use regular car wax. Not noticed any difference between the two.

woody wax for the whole thing- nonskid and hull. works great and very easy to apply…clean boat, spray woody’s on while wet, mop in and let dry, spray off with pressure hose (not pressure washer).

Oh, and I forgot to mention…my non skid was chalking and badly oxidized and had to use like 4 coats…it just absorbed everything to that point. Your boat may be better or worse off. Some spray on turtle wax may work if your boat still has a decent finish.

Sounds good, Thanks

Depending on the oxidation on the gelcoat. a compound may be needed to remove such oxidation. I use 3m rubbing compound with electric buffer followed by a paste wax for most of my clients in need of this aggressive process. Collinite makes great wax, imparticular the Fleetwax No. 885. As for the non-skid, woody’s wax works well.

Car wax doesnt hold up in saltwater and comes off if you use heavy duty detergents when washing your boat,Woodys or Garys wax is easy on/off and shines and lasts well, aas for the oxidized areas I have used 3m oxidizer /cleaner and it worked well on an 89 seapro that had lost its shine looked pretty good after a lot of elbow grease, then a waxing I garage keep mine now and it lasts at least 6mos and thats with heavy wash in and out every time it comes back from the water.
