I have heard someone can boat from the Charleston area up one of the rivers, through some locks into the Santee Cooper Resevoir. Does anyone know how to make that trip?
It’s Lake Moultrie. You can follow the Cooper River all the way to the dam and go through the locks into the lake. Get you a chart, and just follow the river, but be careful at high tide, and at night, or you’ll end up in a rice patty. It’s easy to follow in the day time, especially at low tide. Much of it has markers. There is a tressle that’s pretty low at one point. Call ahead if you need it opened.

Hey I was raised on the river half way between the lower lake and the harbor. Give me a shout and we can get a recent map and a couple of beers and go over it all. Easy trip, but there are some things to look for and know about. Let me know if you are still interested in making the trip.
My chartplotter showed me the way no problem. I can tell you I would have probably ran into some trouble at some point without it.

That is a great day trip. Leave about 0800 hrs and make the return trip after a picnic lunch on the lake. If I remember, it’s about 60 miles from Wappoo Cut.
