Thinking about going fishing in Florida over the holiday. Taking my boat. What do I need to do to legally boat in Florida waters?
I’d think all you would need is the required safety gear(PFD’s,etc, the same stuff they require here), and a non-resident fishing license.

You will need a good chart of the area and stay between the markers. They get real upset if you get in the sea grass and DNR will bust your butt. Ask at local fish shop about which flats are productive.

I’ve got family in the Orlando. No boaters or fishermen in the family, so no clue. I might head out to Clearwater. Any recommendations?

make sure your insurance policy will cover you down in Florida outside of SC waters.
Watch out for No Motor Zones and don’t speed out of the channel in marked manatee zones.

fish around the skyway bridge in tampa bay- very productive.
sailfish nearshore in south florida. troll live bait.
bass on the beds or pre spawn in freshwater-good time to catch a hog.fish shiners under a float around wood or grass points. your redfish gear works great for the bass.
florida will bust you quick for trailer lights and boat tie downs.
buy your license online before you go.

Fort Desoto area is also good for light tackle, live bait.
Ditto on the lights and tie-downs. Also put some kind of a plate on the license plate holder. Paper dealer tag or just something that says South Carolina on it. Florida requires plates on trailers and that lets them know you are from “off” and just down to spend money.
