On a recent trip to the Jetties we were at idle speed going along the beach about 25+ yards out looking for mullet near Moultrie. We chose an area where there were no swimmers or fishing. Along comes a Police vehicle telling us to move along. Not sure of the rules I complied and left. Does anyone know what the rules are for being near the beach in a boat?
In South Carolina, vessels may not be operated in excess of idle speed within 50 feet of an anchored vessel, wharf, pier, dock, or a person in the water. Vessels may not operate in excess of idle speed within 100 yards of the Atlantic coastline (Sec. 50-21-870).
I don’t see what the problem was if you were at idle speed. They might have thought you were Al-Qaeda wanting to blow up the fort. Don’t wear turbans next time.

Check…don’t wear a buff as a Turban.
There are quite a few poorly informed police out there. That’s why we have trials.
I wonder why they would bother you about that though. I’ve done that in the same area plenty of times in front of the coast guard.
They have even asked us if we were in need of help.
Guess he just needed something to do. Wasn’t worth arguing over to me.
