Two boaters were hurt in a collision in Shem Creek Thursday afternoon, according to the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard was notified at 1:49 p.m. that two 20-foot boats had run into each other at marker 16 at the mouth of the creek, spokeswoman Beth Steele said.
The Coast Guard sent a boat. The crew found two people with head injuries, although they were conscious, Steele said. The injured persons were taken to Magwood dock, and EMS took them to Medical University Hospital for treatment, she said.
One of the boats was able to make it to Wando dock, while the other one was towed there, Steele said.
Shem creek is getting bad on the traffic side, it be ok if most would know what to do when on their boat, large charter boats, fishing guides with customers, paddle board, kayak , float act?., now you add alcohol, loud music to all of that then their is a lot of bad choices being made.
Shem creek is a great place but looks like some limits need to be in place
My guess is one guy was hauling a$s coming back in, the other hauling a$s going out, both trying to get around the marker as quickly as possible, too busy taking in the sights instead of watching out for what’s ahead of them.
