Bogging Yammy

Ok well I tried fishing yesterday and caught hell getting the boat running, once I got it running it would idle fine out of gear. After putting in gear it would run fine for a few feet then bog out like it had water in the fuel. I no longer leave my gas tank in the boat so I doubt it had water in the line but not sure. New spark plugs and some seafoam today to see if that helps. Any other suggestions are welcomed.

just about guarantee carb issue

I would always trust Chris V over most anyone else’s advice, but just to rule something out for you…I had a similar problem with my 16’ high tide a few weeks ago and thought it was the fuel. Turned out to be a small hole in my fuel line that was letting the bulb lose fuel. Boat would run fine if I squeezed the bulb every ten seconds or so. You might want to check the simple and inexpensive stuff first. These replacements kits can be found at wallyworld for $50.

very true ricky
I re-read his post
I missed where he said it would run fine for a few feet then bog down.
try this…
crank engine in the water, put in gear at idle, pump primer bulb
floor it, wide open throttle. if boat jumps on plane and runs perfect for a few seconds, then begins to bog down, its probably not carbs, you are starving for fuel.
loose fuel connector, pin hole, etc. everything between the fuel tank and motor is actually running under vacuum when the engine is running, so you wouldn’t necessarily see a fuel leak while running.

If it doesn’t jump on plane and running normal, then its probably a carb issue.

Thanks I will for sure be checking on that as well! I actully bought a genuine yamaha fuel hose cause I had a wally world one and the O ring and spring shot out of it after a couple trips. Had a boat mech tell me never go cheap on your fuel supply and I havent since then! If I pull the bolt from the bottom of the bowls and squeeze the bulb, gas comes out that hole and the hose/bulb are not the issue??

You’re going to regret using an aftermarket primer bulb from Wallyworld. I know the OEM is pricy, but you definitely get what you pay for in this instance.

Also check the little plastic fuel filter on the motor. Mine was loose and causing a similar problem. It would idle but would bog out when put in gear.

I also agree on carb issue or injectors. Call Dynamic Flow. He is a local guy that does great work on injector cleaning. Turn around is really fast.

is dynamic flow still around?
last time we tried to get in touch with him, we couldn’t get him

Well the plugs didn’t look fouled but I replaced them anyway along with putting 2 spares in the dry box as well! Added the seafoam and she only chugged for a min then ran like a top in the Res for 20+ mins! All I can conclude is the gas at the Quick Fill in Hanahan is not actually 93 non E gas. This is the second(and last) fishing trio that has been cut short due to their gas. Anyone else tried their gas before? I will be going anywhere but there from now on!

Stump,

I have ran that gas in my riding mower, push mover, blower, weedeater, ect. and haven’t had a problem with it. I add fuel stabilizer to it even though that probably doesn’t help any but just do it anyway. I haven’t put it in my boat just because it is a pain to pull it in and out of that parking lot. I use the non-E fuel from the Hot Spot in the boat and haven’t had a problem with it either. They only have 89 non-E there though.

How’s the saying go; fool me once, something something, fool me twice, F right off! LOL:face_with_head_bandage: Yea that’s where I am on their gas!
