Hit the water about 8 this morning to fish the incoming tide. Caught a ton of finger mullet really quick, but found very few shrimp. First 2 spots only produced 2 small trout. 2 more spots we fish regularly and nothing. Finally caught this 29" red on a live FM under a dock I had never fished before. Released him unharmed. Scouted a few more new spots and picked up couple more trout and my daughter caught a garfish. The reds seemed to have lockjaw. Must have been the cold front sitting on us. Forgot the camera, so only got this cellphone pic of the red. I know we have had a lot of rain, but it’s awful early for the shrimp to thin out.
Look around your normal shrimp spots and they will be close, usually within a 100 yards. The creek mouth I normally pick them up at was bare yesterday, but the grassy points 75 yards away were loaded, 4 cast produced 100 shrimp.
