Bonnetheads

I’m looking to collect some Bonnetheads for display at the Aquarium. In the past we have been successful soaking crabs at Dynamite Hole but not so much this year. Ideally we are looking for smallish males since the females this time of year are often pregnant and require special care. Any thoughts, locations, tides, baits would be appreciated. Feel free to PM me if you don’t want to post your honey hole for all to fish! Thanks.

I was fishing the Kiawah river earlier this week, and saw Bonnetheads all over the place. I was fishing the first couple of creeks on the right, and I could see Bonnets on top of the water feeding over the oysters. Caught a few on MM on a carolina rig.

i hear Kiawa is the hotspot for Bonnetheads right now. basically half a crab with a carolina rig, and braided line would work well where any river feeds into a main channel. just my opinion.

Kiawah, and lower stono. Large Creek mouths with moving water and a blue crab chunk or jumbo shrimp is surefire to catch them! Put in at sol legare and head downriver

Hey guys thanks for the info, it seems pretty unanimous. I was hoping for a honey hole in the Cooper or Wando closer to the Aquarium to minimize transport but we will give the Stono a shot next week. Thanks.

But… fish can swim wherever they want and they want to swim at Kiawah/Stono this year.

The mouth of green creek or creeks around green creek at low, so many you can cruise around and site fish if you can cast good, stay as far as possible or at least 20ft throw 10ft or so in front of direction shark is swimming with backless crab and circle hook and wait for excitement to happen.
