BOTLO Penn Slammer combo at marker 53

I lost a Penn Slammer rod/reel combo at marker 53 on the Stono on Sunday!! I was fishing the flat near marker 53, laid the rod on top of the bimini while I was tending to another rod. Along comes a BackCove yacht, under cruising speed, throwing a huge wake. The wake rocks the boat and bounces the rod off of the top of the bimini and into the water!!! So, if you’re out at low tide near marker 53 in the next couple of days take a look and see if it’s there!!!
Oh, and I did at least bring a trout home for dinner! Caught it near a dock, about an hour before low tide on a minnow under a cork.

Sorry to hear about the rod. I saw you heading south probably around 10 AM. I had a fish on, but dropped my rod when I heard a boat coming. Noticed it was you as I was acting like there was nothing to see. I fished from 6:15 to 11 in the morning. Went after trout then switched to reds. It was one of the slowest days I have fished in a long time. The trout were in hiding and the reds are really spread out and not many. Ended with a 16 and 26" red and a small flounder.

I didn’t notice you…I would have stopped to see how you were doing. I was out from about 9:30 - 3pm. The trout was the only targeted fish that i caught, it was sting ray after sting ray most of the day. The best stop for me was the grass where I lost the rod. There were reds clearly visible darting back and forth in front of the boat. I was throwing every type of bait I had at them and they had no interest. THey were chasing and catching something but I couldn’t tell what it was, it just wasn’t what I was putting out there!!

GOT IT BACK! Went out on Saturday, during the falling tide and when I rode past marker 53, there it was, the rod was laying right on top of the mud just at edge of the water. The friend that was with me reached out over the bow and grabbed it as I pushed the boat up through the mud and then quickly back out again. Took the rod/reel home, soaked it in some fresh water, and it’s still working!! How’s that for luck!
Now if I could only catch some fish!

Wow, what luck! Glad ya got it back!

Awesome!! If only I could find the prescription glasses that sit on the bottom of Kings over at Folly.

You’ll probably want to grease up that reel very well. Since it spent some time in the salt, you might want to follow the water with a WD40 flush to remove any residual salt that might be embedded in the gears and grease surface (ie, the WD40 will dilute and flush out the old grease). Kerosene, diesel, or probably even standard old mineral spirits would work too.
