What does everyone use to identify these bottom fish so that you know your legal?
I use a book called “Sportfish of the Atlantic” put out by Fla Sportsman.Descriptions,habits,color pics.

I printed color photos off of this site (you can find them under fish ID). I Laminated the 8.5*11 and bound them.

Go to books -a - million & get a copy of “Pettersons guide to atlantic coast fishes”. It has every fish you’ll ever see in our waters.

Also, keep in mind that many of these fish can look very dif. from their pictures in the books. We caught some kind of hind grouper yesterday that did not look like anything I’d ever seen. It looked like some kind of hybrid or possibly some kind of rare one, so I threw it back. It was not big enough to kill for the sake of getting any more meat.
Be sure to pop their air bladders when you throw back these bottom fish or they will float on top and die.
The variety of fish you can get off some good live bottom/hard bottom is one of the reasons why I like bottom fishing so much!
