Bottom Fishing 1-31

Played Hookie with my Cuz today to target some Trigger and Silver Snapper! Weatherman was spot on and the ocean was FLAT! I realize that the BSB are classified as overfished but we could barely keep a bait down long enough for anything else to find it! Ended the day with 3 Silvers and 2 Trigger. Had a great day on the water - keepers or not!! :stuck_out_tongue:

FYI - nearly every BSB we caught (60-80) had a crab, shrimp or sea cucumber in its mouth - it appears that with the shutdown these things are destroying their own environment??

cool boat.

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

Scoutin,

I figured you of all people would know it was a 36 fisharound!! :sunglasses: I decided to name the boat Down and Out - Changed my CF name from up2nogd. I guess that makes me a newbie again?? Lets make that trip happen this year!

Johnny

a red porgy is not a snapper

thats a lot of wasted fuel for 5 fish

those “snapper” taste like iodine

Now THAT is FLAT! NICE NICE NICE!

Bolbie,

Might want to check the description on the SAFMC website!!! Red Porgy go by a few names : Pink Porgy, Pink SNAPPER, Silver SNAPPER!!!

Yep - wasted fuel indeed! Got to spend the day with my cousin after a few bad years, caught over 100 fish, warm enough to break a sweat and the ocean was NICE! How Much - PRICELESS!!! Whats the difference in these guys that go out and chase Blue Marlin???

Does somebody need a Hug?

Dilly - it was as nice as I have ever seen. Ran in at 50 plus!!

how much fuel did you burn for 3 porgys?

I don’t think it was about the fuel. That looks like a great day!

Best guess is about $3000.00
$1000.00 each for cleaning up motors from sitting up!
Really I think 75 gallons for 100 mile trip! Would have been “much” better if I could have kept those dang throttles from going so far down!!

Now Bolbie do we really want to start trying to justify what fishing or per fish cost?? Lets see:

Gas
Bait
Rods/Reels
Food and Drink
Loss and Breakage
Upgrades
Boat
Boat Insurance
Maintenance
Storage
(should I continue)

As I have heard it said best:
I sure hope when I die my wife doesn’t sell my fishing equipment for what I told her I paid for it!!!

Dana you are 100% correct - it had nothing to do with fuel burn. Instead of cruising down the inter-coastal to keep everything working we went offshore on an absolutely gorgeous day!

I’ve got my fish down to about $600 per pound. Boat, fuel, gear…A great day on a flat ocean, out of cell phone range, no worries, good frineds, good times, forever memories for friends and family…priceless. You really cannot put a price on that.

Guy’s its not about the money, it’s about good times with good friends.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.
